Cortisol is a steroid hormone, more specifically a glucocorticoid, produced by the the adrenal cortex. It is released in response to stress and a low level of blood glucocorticoid. Its primary functions are to increase blood sugar through gluconeogenesis, suppress the immune system, and aid the metabolism of fat, protein, and carbohydrate. It also decreases bone formation.

Bit worried from something I read here that HIT (high interval training) might poduce spikes in growth hormones, which is one thing I am trying to avoid!
