anyone got any tips for tasty gluten free meals. My twelve year old son is suffering from bowel troubles - the cause yet to be discovered , we're awaiting hospital appointment. I was reading that such troubles may be a result of allergy to gluten so while we wait for his appointment , might be worth cutting it out and seeing if it makes a difference.

I think the challenge is to find a repalcement for sandwiches if that is a lunch-time staple -- I used to eat jacket spud with various fillings at work .. but not so good without acces to a mocrowave to re-heat it! Do they take their own lunches to school or buy there?
biscuits and other snacks are also popular souces of gluten and manufacturers sneak wheat (and sugar) into many products on supermarket shelves .. I eat brazil nut and dried apricot together for a sweet/crucnhy snakc .. and it is lovely, but not sure S will think so!
my whole diet is adapted from a diet in a superfoods book under the heading of healthy bowel ... so you might look at the attachment I posted for that, tho it's not a diet you can easily get kids to eat, I think!
hmmm I keep sayign things that are not very helpful, sorry!
lots of vegan recipes are gluten free .. so most of the recipes I've posted in recipes section in here are gluten free .. cos they are just veg and oil, mainly, I rarely use flour or wheat in my own cooking ...
also jan does gluten free cooking for her husband, so maybe she'll join in when she pops by ..
I hope you can get a diagnosis for S. soon. Did his diahrea stop?

dried apris and nuts wouldn't be a problem. A sub for sandwiches more so .he's dead against going on school dinners. He has his appointment with gastro specialist at hospital on Mon week. Stools about twice a day now and soft. Gave him some immodium as he was running to loo alot last week but don't want to make a habit of that.

hiya cathy Poor lad ... tho the appt with specialist has come through pretty quickly, which is good news
you can get gluten free products in the supermarkets, and health food shops, but no idea how good they are
Lunch box .. potato salads of different types with veg / meat / fish chopped in rice salads, ditto .. you only need a fork to eat them - my fave has raisins and almonds as a staple then whatever else comes to hand
