Myself, husband, daughter and SIL are off to Paris next March/April for my 60th birthday. Believe it or not I've never been there before, although Minnie knows it a little. However, she's told me to choose a hotel ..
.. well next door to the Louvre in the 1st Arr. looked good but a little outside our price range .. ;D
What areas do you suggest? I've found one nice looking hotel near the Canal St Martin (and the Gard du Nord, but not actually next door to the train noises).
I also rather fancy Monmartre itself but Minnie informs me this is the red light district and she for one isn't going to stay there. hmmm. Any opinions?

hiya -- nice problem and what a lovely treat it will be for you. I would certainly not stay too near to a train station .. We stayed in Montparnasse which some ppl might think a bit far out, but it suited us cos it was a little quieter, and we had no noise at all while we were there, where as nearer to the River the areas are buzzing late into the night, and I would not like that so much in fact the place we stayed is here in trip advisor: www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g187147-d264541-Reviews-Arcadie_Montparnasse-Paris_Ile_de_France.htmlyou can read my review of it! The rooms are small, but tbh, unless you have a regal budget to spend, smaill is norm in Paris, like London, space is the premium so you're going to get small pretty much everywhere!
