Saturday 20th June
I think we have found the slowest climb in the entire Peak District, a gentle climb from Hartington in the direction of Longnor .. it's a great training ride, 5 miles of climbing then 5 miles bombing back down at 25 miles an hour.
I was too tired to do it more than once, but it was another outing for Skippy and ideal for getting going on climbs again.
We also saw a hare on this ride, very exciting!

Tuesday 29th June
20 miles out to Trentham again along canal.
Weds 30th June just 11 miles along canal after dropping car off at garage ...
Thursday 1st July NO MILES -- too weak after D+V all night long ....
Friday 2nd July did Ash Bank for first time, on Skippy, it was fine, about 12 miles in all with quite a lot of up and down on it round our back-yard!

You're doing brilliantly. I'm off for a ride later on this afternoon - namely road riding as I want to sniff out this route to Manchester I have Google-Earthed. In all honesty, I'm dreading it. The thought of not being able to get very far at all fills me with nauseau, namely because I know it's all my own doing. HOWEVER, I have to start somewhere, so I guess any ride is good for that. I'm also kicking myself because there's a lovely canal ride towards Manchester which is mainly flat with a steady incline for the first couple of miles BUT I can't do it because there's a long, dark canal tunnel which gives me the eebie-jeebies. I've tried to cycle through it quickly three times now and each time I make it about 3 meters and panic, jump off my bike and run back out the way I came. Completely irrational fear of what, I'm not quite sure, but there you have it! I'll keep you posted on my ride later on this evening.

The dreaded tunnel... and from the other side: Horrific, isn't it!

I don't blame you Sam, I wouldn't like to go down there. We have a similar tunnel under the Kennet and Avon Canal outside Bath, it doesn't feel safe at all.

Obviously safety is an issue, but its more some sort of phobia that keeps me out. When you're in it you can see (although it didn't help wearing sunglasses during my first trip in!) its just a horrible feeling I get from inside there. I'm the same if I'm swimming under water in the sea and I see the underside of a boat. A really bizarre phobia.

I wouldn't be able to do that tunnel, as a kid I never played in the playground thing that had tunnels in, and my siblings loved ...
fitness this week will mainly come from decorating! hmm ...

Tues 7th July 2010 Did nearly 15 miles on my own today, a big psychological hurdle for me to get into the habit of cycling out in this area by myself .. pleased to have done it, and hope I can keep it up!
Did a little loop up to Alvanley then across to Delamere as far as the Station and back along the Norley road to make it a loop.
Thursday 9th July 2nd ride out solo in this area ... did the reverse of the loop I did on Tueday, but a litlle bit longer (17 miles) cos I added in a circuit of one of the little lakes ..
The terrain here is good training ... a few shortish climbs to test my legs and quite a lot of beautiful rolling countryside, mainly through woods .. I just love cycling through trees, it is good for the soul, and I really feel as though I am breathing pure oxygen when I take in deep breaths, the air is so clean and fragrant with the woody scents.

I once walked up a massive hill with Suze. 1/2 way up, as I recall, and consensus was to visit me in hospital next time ;D

I've not been very good at updating this, but I have been quite good at cycling
The highlight being that we did the Prostate cancer tour ride in Sept, and a couple of weeks b4 that we did a ride out to see the pros that incluced quite a bit o hillishness
and since we've been at the shed I've not been brilliant about my exercise, but have done 25 miles each Thursday, to get to my french class in Chester, there and back on the bike has been lovely
