Last night I watched, 'Lassie Come Home'. I'm quite sure that was the title. A brilliant family film. Quite an old classic, & to be honest, I don't recall seeing it before. I'm sure it's been shown many times. Very well acted & a good story. And I must say, Lassie was a real star. I could watch it again sometime.

I really loved Atonement. We always load the laptop with films before going away and catch up on so much that we've missed. Took about a dozen movies on out latest trip and watched them all, I think. Useful for those evenings when you don't have the energy to do any more exploring/socialising/going out.

That'll be most evenings for me then!
Is your laptop particularly big memory wise? I've never tried to load a film, but would have thought it took a lot of space?

We have a couple of external hard drives, one for films and one for music, so all we need to do is plug whichever one into the laptop and away you go. Just like a larger version of a flash drive, I suppose. I don't understand all the ins and outs but we have a 40G hard drive and can get around 40 films on it (something to do with how they're compressed?) I'm sure Karen can explain it properly!

Calling Karen!
I've got a 160 Gb external hard drive, so I guess I could use it as you suggest!
reminds me I ought to back up my photos and music on it, which is what I bought it for !

Watched, 'The Postman Always Rings Twice' with Lana Turner & John Garfield as the main stars. Brilliant film. I bought the DVD from the library withdrawn sales. A cracking film.

yes boss ;D a lot of the newer movies come out with a copy of the movie specifically for playing on your PC/iPhone/tablet or whatever if it hasn't got this you'll need a dvd ripper, it's a bit like transferring music from CD to your PC only with movies I can't recommend one because I don't do this and strictly speaking it's a breach of copyright and frowned upon, but that doesn't stop people doing it and if it's not for profit the authorities tend to turn a blind eye, much to the chagrin of the movie companies which is why they've started putting copies for your PC on the same DVD but yeah a 160Gb disk should hold over a hundred movies without too much strain

it depends entirely on how long they are and what sort of compression you are using, I believe the current best method is DivX or something very like that

ok recent movies
Zombieland - zombie apocalypse hits the world and four people go to a funfair, surprisingly funny and not as bad as it sounds, or maybe it is and I'm just wierd
Get Smart's Bruce And Lloyd Out Of Control - get smart follow on, bit disappointing and seemed rather short, not as good as get smart imo
Iron Man 2 - I was prepared to hate this as I'm not a great fan of mickey rourke however he delivered a very good villian, robert downey jr was his usual fast talking self and the movie was quite entertaining
Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time - I really liked this one, they went to town on the sets and the story was quite entertaining
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - heath ledgers last film and dedicated to him, a glorious glimpse into the world inside terry gilliams head
Solomon Kane - basic medieval action/adventure, bad guy turns good because the alternative is damnation renounces violence in favour of worship and is then forced to return to his old lifestyle in order to battle evil which turns out to be closer to home than he thought, I thought I'd enjoy this but it was oddly unsatisfying, I guess you can't use action to make up for not having a decent script
Moon - one guy running a station on the moon with a kevin spacey robot to assist, only something isn't right, excellent movie

Karen, your taste in films is very different to mine!
We went to see the film about facebook's legal wrangles last week .. erm, Social Network, is it called? I thought it was very good, esp when you think the subject matter is quite dry, really: computer geeks and legal depositions .. they did a good job of making it lively and funny

I have to say I do like escapist fantasy, sci fi and action adventure type things, I really don't like period dramas, horror, biographies or reality based movies
that said one of my all time favourite movies is farewell my concubine, which is a period drama set in china around the time communism was taking over and may even be based on a true story, not one car chase or big orange explosion in the entire movie, yet it still moves me

Karen, your taste in films is very similar to mine, so with you in mind I recommend Piranha 3D. But only if you want to roll on the floor howling with laughter. A far better horror is the Swedish 'Let The Right One In', despite being about a vampire it has more unexpected dimensions than the flat Piranha 3D. Really quite good.
I notice Atonement gets a favourable mention here, well sorry Susan but for once I might have to disagree with you. I found this cheerless feel bad effort a lot annoying. No happy ending, an irritating protagonist and some broken vase hokum. So what about it did you like? Seriously, I wanted to like it but it just gave me the pip.
