Slight tangent ... but I have found it very motivational to read about the way the food industry targets us to eat the high-calorie -low-nutrient stuff, in most cases using sugar and hydrogenated fats ..
Both of these ingredients cheap and have long shelf-lives, so it suits the industry to swamp us with opportunities to see/buy/ believe we enjoy this stuff .. similar with meat products, but that's another story!
It's like a great marketing con, I and I prefer seeing this stuff as a poison foisted on me by captiatlist ^ankers --- it really HELPS my head in terms of seeing beneath the image to the reality of what is good or not in food terms.
If ever I feel like buying sugar and fat in some combinatino I try to remember this and get some fruit instead .. in particular fresh raspberries are lovely, far more nutritious and really a proper treat, but they have a very poor shelf life and that's the problem with most of the stuff that's better to eat .. it doesn't keep very well, and if shopkeepers don't sell it quickly they lose their money ..
That doesn't happen with sugar and hydrogenated fats products.. these last for ages and shops can always keep the stock rotating ..... and THAT is the main reason sugare and fat are so pervasive and available .... I reckon we've been trained like lab rats to think we LIKE this poison ..
I've stuggled with my weight all my life and I think this sort of logic and insight would have helped me as teenager when I was trying to be an independant thinking person, as much as it helps me now, I've always responded well to conspiracy theories, and this one really helps me ..
It certainly helps me far more than the usual spirit of deprivation that most diet plans seem for foster .. I believe that the anti-cnacer diet is really treating myself well and that eating cake is the very opposite of a treat now !
but old programming is hard to beat and I have learnt a very sweet tooth over the years!

I feel chubby today .. not been on scales for a while, so cannot tell .. in fact we need new scales cos the old ones got broken I think that PAris and Scotland have led to weight gain, even though I don't go mad .. just a little bit extra gives me pounds on immediately

So I had crept up to 13 stones over Christmas but today I have 12stone 10 .. so back to July weight, with 4lbs off .. more to go! Ah, I am doing better than ever before in my life in holding a similar weight for a while .. Last week, when we got back from summer hols I weighed in at 12st 13lbs. My current target is to lose 21 pounds by Oct half term when we go to Lanzarote. That's about 2 pounds a week. Today I weighed in at 12st 9lb, which means I quickly dropped four pounds and am now the same as I was over 12 months ago .. very unusual for me .. I also means I did lose a stone after my chemo finished last year and have pretty much kep that off. I was quite amazed to lose 4 pounds this week, considering all the eating out we did with Mark and family when they were here ... tho I was pretty strict about portions and we had mainly salad based meals .... plus we were very active on some of the days! I think there might be video of me RUNNING on Crosby beach somewhere! Will be great to get below 12 stones .. yes, it CAN be done! LOL

week 0 -- 13st 8lbs week 1 -- 13st 4lbs --- total loss 4lbs week 2 -- 13st 1lb -- --total loss 7lbs ;D week 3 - 13st 0lbs --- total loss 8lbs! bought new dresses and shorts this week .. yay! Reading back over this, I realise that the new clothes I bought last year are quite loose on me now, even though I weigh about the same, ppl keep askign me if I've lost more weight, and I think the answer is I have really toned up a lot with the body balance classes at the gym.

My weight today is 11-4-4 my start weight was 12-8-3 so have lost over a stone. Today I noticed my boobs seem smaller I dont really want to loose to much there, its my tummy I have the bigest problem with. Matalan had some tops in very similar to the blue one you gave me Sue. next week they are reducing lots of stuff for store card holders and will have those tops in the sale. Bye for now L.M. xxxx

Good news Susan, keep on this trajectory and you won't be Big Sister any more. Joking of course, you keep that title forever. Seriously, you mght soon weigh less than me, and that would be strange. Just to make it harder I am trying to drop about 6 pound. Eating less and exercising more. x

Im not losing much at the moment but on the other hand Im not gaining any either. When we were out today I could have eaten chips but , polish the HALO I did resist them. Mind after the report on how much better a packet of fish and chips are over some of these small bakers and special breads, which are loaded with salt and false fat, it does get you thinking. Most of these loaves dont have a content label so you havnt a clue what stuff you are eating. Bye Now L.M. xxxx

I like fish and chips, but don't have them often. Can't see that they are worse than other fast foods. Whatever, well done Mum if you resisted temptation.. what did you have instead? x

I don't think you will find very much FAT in any bread, mum, until you put your own topping on it, but the salt issue is a problem for ppl like dad, with blood pressure issues ..
It is a puzzler why they are adding so much to some breads ... though it is not an issue for me cos I need more than average salt and don't have a blood pressure problem!
Keep up the good work mum ...
Fish and chips is not too bad an option if you can get very thick chips (they absorb less fat) and don't eat the batter on the fish .. but the portion sizes are generally a bit heavy for a weight loss programme! Mark, we didn't have t much in Osborne House, did we ?!?!?

Blimey - over two years since I started this thread
the good news is I am still here ;D and the whole anti-cancer lifestyle is working to slow the cancer, despite needing another operation for a secondary lung tumour this January, it WAS only the one and it was not very big!
Interesting to see I am still hovering around 12 stone 8lbs in weight, which is great for me to have more or less maintained it, with ups and downs, but not going huge again .. I am very pleased.
Trying again to get down to 11 stones!
hey ho ...
