All done here.
Ok, 'Old man' + Pa, Pa 'returning' = Ap
To 'ferry' is ply, put it together and the 'suit' becomes APPLY.
Could have kicked myself on 23 across, it was one of those silly mini word searches. So 'Fairly good inside centre, in part', might as well have read: 'Fairly good insiDE CENTre, in part'. So, it's DECENT.
The plain English thingy was PRAIRIE

Have to say Anne, you clearly have more imagination than the compilers.

Happy birthday Anne.
I suppose there are more fun things than crosswords, especially now winter seems to have finished.
Anyway, I have completed the Everyman. 19 down stumped me for a while: 'Understood by few, British composer seen round about' (6) I knew it was _ R _ A _ E so it was fairly obviously ARCANE, meaning understood by few. But it took me a while to find out Thomas Arne was the British composer in question. Apparently he came up with Rule Britannia. The 'about' means circa, abbreviated to 'ca'. So Arne 'seen round' ca gives the solution.
Hope you have enjoyed your day.

Thankyou very much (I haven't advertised it this year so no worries about belatedness) going to buy a lovely new camera tomorrow, looking forward to taking some nice wildlife photos. Also got myself a black lacey undertop and some instant wrinkle filler (LOL! - it doesn't work either!)

btw I still have that large, framed van gogh print i meant to give to you .. but never got to your old house with it .. i came across it as we were clearing out this week ...in the garage .. i guess you new house will be too small for it? let me know if you still fancy it?

ah - I have to admit the presents weren't exactly self-gifted, just self-purchased! Much easier all around! ;D The camera was a joint effort by my parents, husband and Minnie.
Yes - I'd love to have the print if you ever fancy dropping in when you are down this way; I would hang it in my bedroom, which is at least the size of the sitting room, and mostly magnolia. Which of VG's works is it?

it's that one with wheat fields and crows .. we talked about it a lot b4, then for some reason I never got to you with it .. chemo reason probably sure you still want it ? I had it framed, it's a good frame ... blue and with a bit of gold I think ... Was great to see original VGs in the Musee d'Orsay this week ... lovely .. not sure when I am going down south again, probably in May if scan is ok!

I've only just started doing crossword puzzles. A real beginner. I've always been a sudoki & wordsearch fan & shy'd away from crosswords until having a go at the 10 min crossword puzzle in the Weekly News. In fact today is my 1st day at it. ........ I have been wondering if Mark ever did make his own puzzles? I recall he was planning to invent a puzzle. Or am I wrong? Well Mark if you are tuning into this thread you can let me know.

yay! Well done Pauline - I've been thinking about this thread myself recently. Have been doing the cryptic in the I newspaper (the "mini Independent") and sometimes it goes well, sometimes it's very, very cryptic indeed. I shall return with a few conundrums ....

From our local paper ..
It's a Spanish sport to leap wildly about (6)
-----A
Fiesta? And if so - why? The leaping wildly suggests an anagram ..
(2) Something worthless Mike found in Spanish city (5)
The answer was 'lemon'
So where does Mike come into it?
