Hello all. Hope everyone had a good day & that the poorly's are now better. Is the cooker at your 1st home Sue? I will have a look if so. My own cooker does work ok, but my grill is low level & I fancy going back to eye level. You could still put an advert in the paper though. ..... Anyway, we have just had a nice fish meal. Trout & sauce. .......... I did do a little wallpapering today. One small wall in the bathroom. I think it looks better now. ..... I feel a little tired now. But I have nothing to moan about really. To be honest, after watching the news I am so grateful to be here & not in Japan. Gosh what a terrible disaster! ......... Anyway I'll just say goodnight.

Mum, blimey what was wrong with Dad's sea bass? That's a bit pricey even if you like it, isn't it? Slightly ashamed to report we had lamb chops and potatoes roasted in duck fat today. From what I've read in here I don't think we had the heathy option, though we did have a ton of organic veg.
Pauline echoes my feelings, we are lucky to live where (and when) we do. I doubt anyone using this forum takes life for granted, that's good.
Just spent an hour or more talking on skype to my lifelong friend Carlos. He is about to start work as an airline pilot based either in New York or Fort Worth, he is very happy with his life. Incidentally, he mentioned the PVR on his tv in Florida lets you record four channels and watch a fifth. He also mentioned Mark Hodge is going over to visit in June. Concerning the eye level grill, I like them but don't need a replacement. x

Sea bass is posh! I've never eaten it, so next time you cook it mn'd just send Mr mn'd's portion my way ;D
Yes, we are lucky - it's almost incomprehensible, those flattened villages, all that black and muddy water surging over the roads ...
Interestingly I've also been writing to an old school mate, someone I lived close to but we didn't get on at the time ... but over the years we are reminiscing and talking about things that we didn't fully understand when we were younger. After all these years we seem to have something in common .
Yesterdays solo stint on reception duty went ok, luckily the lady running the Tourist Info desk across the room reminded me about certain things. I completely forgot to ask visitors about Gift Aiding their entrance money, and most of the time forgot to give them a leaflet explaining the exhibits, but apart from that it was ok.
Hope B had a good journey back to you, suze.

Hiya ... skype is great isn't it? B uses is with her brother .. Carlos has done well to get himself to that position, he is a live-wire and no mistake ...
I was thinking I ought to be able to sell that cooker , but to be honest, I cannot be fagged with complete strangers turning up at my doorstep to haggle over it ... though I thought a 2nd hand dealer might offer me a few quid for it .. if I get in touch with one or two of them and see what they say ...
Poppy, you can have it if you can arrange transport .. it will be coming out the third week in April, all being well ...
Mark, I love potatoes in duck fat! I don't eat much lamb anymore though, apart from occasionally in the Indian restaurant ... I think it is more free-range than cows, so not too bad now and again .... I never eat beef of pork / ham etc any more ... today I bought organic chicken to cook when Mr K is here, that's the only time I cook with meat, when he is coming round! Tonight I will be doing mushroom risotto and tomato salad .. I had walnut bread and hummus with a bit of tomato soup for lunch ... YUM YUM!
B had a great time with her sister and Holly over the weekend .. ... visiting her old haunts and some new ones. BUT she got fined 30 quid for her luggage which rather took the edge off the return journey .. it is one of those small cases, mall enough to carry on, which she has done a couple of times b4, and this job's-worth said it was a few thou too big for her sizing box ... B was furious, other ppl had bigger cases, with no surcharge, and in any case it DOES fit in the lockers, but had no choice other than to pay ... robbers!
I got to the airport just before she had even taken off -- it takes literally 50 minutes ... ! I didn't want to be late .. got into a chat with a woman who was waiting for her 82 yr old mother who had been on a trip to New Zealand (gasp) and said mother had lost all her luggage/passport etc in the Christchurch earthquakes .. so had to set about getting new passport and clothes before she could come home ... and to cap it all, she was having some mysterious trouble with internal flights .. so she was already more than three hours late at that point ... blimey! there are some intrepid folks about ... I didn't even fancy the jaunt to S'ton never mind New Zealand!
I wont watch the news much ... too sad, and I really DO appreciate my easy life here without having to see other ppl's trauma, I think ... you are right there, Mark ... all of us in here are unlikely to take our lives for granted ...

Hi, About sea bass, I have never had any before, has my favorite flavored fish comes a lot lower price ,the best is fresh caught Mackerel quick fried in butter, eaten with bread and butter, perfection!.
Pauline got that one because it had been reduced and I wasn't with her,and she thought she was giving me a treat, she cooked it in the micro; has we do a lot of fish, that was very good, the fish tasted beautiful BUT THERE WERE MILLIONS OF BONES IN IT with the back bone out , there was still far to many. so I had a go but there was no pleasure in trying to eat it ,so it went in the bin.
I finished my meal with ginger marmalade, on French stick buttered to eat with the fish, That was what Toby and Joe got me for Christmas ginger is another favorite of mine, and they had got me three different thing's one of which I have polished of already.
I have been to the dentist today first time in years, has a direct need ,I had broken a piece of one of my back teeth and only noticed it wen my tongue got sore rubbing against it . We go twice a year for a check and only have a little clean and polish, but now Pauline has had a gold crown on one and thats what I am having. I have a temporarily thing to last the two week's for the next stage.
I must say how lucky we are to have a dentist to do something for you , immediately with no appointment . Pauline says there was lots of mumbling about waiting while the dentist did the work on my teeth. three cheers for POLISH FEMALE DENTIST'S
We went to Weymouth the weather was Fab, had spaghettti bolagnase for lunch no chewing (hardly)
bye for now

Hiya dad ... glad your dentist sorted you out ... as you know I like my dentist, but I see a lot more of him than you do of yours .. considering you two have good teeth, I wonder where my problems stem from .. I have had so many problems over the yeras and had several extractions and now another pain has started and I think I need to investigate :-(
Today I am awaiting the man to fit the satellite, I was down as his first call at 8am but at 8.10 he phoned me to say he was in a big jam on a motorway round manchester .. so goodness knows when he will get here!
Mr K is coming over and we will go for a cycle later .. perhaps to get a new tap for the kitchen now .. would you believe another plumbing trauma .. the ceramic washer in the kitchen tap has broken now .. dunno if it is related to earlier frost trouble, but got to go to Howdens for replacement and hope our (literally resident) plumber can find time to fit it for me .. we have no water in kitchen at the moment .. hey ho!
B is working late tonight, parents' evening

Did a bit of hedge trimming this morning but it was a bit cool so I was only out 1hour. We went to Morrisons and Aldi and the sun was out then and quite warm. The sea bass was beautiful and white, but it had bones you see I always take bones out of fish, so it was a shock to your Dads system to find bones in his dinner, been spoilt I would say. Just fetched the washing in it was dry, nice not to have to use the dryer. T.V.is rubbish this week Dont know why I bother to get the T.V. times. Hope you had a nice time with Andy today.

Fish with lots of little bones can be tricky can't it? Have you ever been to the Pilot Boat Inn in Lyme Regis, near the front at the Museum end of town. I haven't been for a few years now but they used to do something I called, "three dead fish on a plate" (sorry!) but it was lovely and very simple. Three different fish, at least two with heads on , I can remember there was one called a gunard, very ugly and almost entiely head. How's your toothache, suze? Will you find a dentist near the shed or do you have to return to Stoke? I broke one of my crowns during our first fortnight living here, had to phone the dental surgery the day after we had registered. Seeing a new dentist is always a little nerve wracking, but we've been lucky. He's young, cockney, oriental and mightily efficient. I worked in the Museum office for a couple of hours on Monday - had a happy time putting all their press cuttings for the last four years into date order, and having a good read as well I've also been very brave and phoned the contact for the local painting group, was rather anxious about it because they seem to be a good one, judging by their annual exhibitions. The lady was very friendly, has to put me on a waiting list (good sign of a good group?) but there may be a space after Easter; in the meantime she has invited me to visit them on Monday.

Hiya no I wont find a new dentist here .. oh no no no!
Andy and I made it all the way to West Kirby, 52 miles, but not a hill on any of them! fun to be able to cycle to the sea, and most of it on the West Wirral way, which is a prince among cycle tracks ... miles and miles of wide car-free path ... a few grumpy dog owners of course, and the usual piles of pooh to circumnavigate, but otherwise an absolultely great route .. we were out all day and too tired to start cooking at 7.30 so we went to a pub, my fish was not very good .. the oil was too cold I think ... Cannot place that pub, Anne .. is it the one with big windows over to the sea? as a family we all favour one at the other end of town, near the cob, we've had some lovely fish meals in there in the past .. it is always busy and that is what you need for good fresh fish meals
off to French in a minute

Andy and I made it all the way to West Kirby, 52 miles, but not a hill on any of them! fun to be able to cycle to the sea, and most of it on the West Wirral way, on that ride we pedalled through this place called Parkgate on the Dee Esturay which used to be a sea-side place, but now there are marches where the sea used to be, it seems to be stuck back in time, and very cute for that ..

Interesting how nothing stays the same, not even the physical geography. Forget Geography, English is more interesting to me at the moment. Especially Luke's GCSE result, he has a B.

English Language that is, he does English Lit later on. It's odd to have a result so early.
Gorgeous day so Luke and I played football at the park.
Susan, don't know how soon we will be getting the consignment of Sencha to you, but we cleared the shelf at Sainsburys so you will not be running dry for ages.

Hurried visit - suze the Pilot Boat doesn't look over the sea, it's on the other side of the road, on a corner, near a fossil shop. However I know the one on the Cobb, although I don't think I've been in there. The Aquarium is rather fabulous isn't it? (my mind is wandering from fish you eat to fish you watch!)
Well done on your cycle ride, 52 miles even without hills sounds a big, big achievement to me! I love the look of the place on your photo.
Congratulations to Luke!
I've been walking on Westhay Nature Reserve on the Somerset Levels today. It was absolutely beautiful, but very few birds. All the Winter visitors have left and the Summer migrants haven't arrived it seems. I took my sketchpad but no sketching unfortunately. I need to be on my own to do that, so I can position myself in front of an interestingly shaped fallen log or something.
